Technical SEO is the foundation that makes content SEO and link building possible. A site with broken hreflang, slow Core Web Vitals, blocked crawl paths or missing schema can have the best content and the strongest backlinks and still fail to rank. Our technical SEO services fix the foundation first — then everything else compounds faster.
What technical SEO actually covers
Technical SEO is the set of non-content optimisations that affect how search engines crawl, render, index and rank a site. It splits into six practical areas:
Crawlability
robots.txt configuration, XML sitemaps, internal linking architecture, crawl budget management for large sites.
Indexability
canonical tags, noindex strategy, parameter handling, duplicate content resolution.
Renderability
JavaScript rendering, server-side rendering vs client-side, hydration strategy for SPAs, lazy-loaded content visibility to bots.
Performance
Core Web Vitals (LCP, FID, CLS, INP), TTFB, render-blocking resources, image optimisation, font loading strategy.
Structured data
Schema.org markup (Organization, Article, Product, FAQPage, HowTo, BreadcrumbList), JSON-LD vs microdata, validation against Google’s Rich Results Test.
International & mobile
hreflang implementation, mobile-first indexing, AMP (where relevant), responsive design SEO impact.
Our technical SEO audit methodology
Every engagement starts with a full technical audit. The audit produces a prioritised P0/P1/P2 roadmap — what blocks rankings today, what limits future growth, what is cosmetic.
- Crawl analysis — Screaming Frog or Sitebulb full crawl, comparing to Google Search Console coverage reports. We identify orphan pages, broken internal links, redirect chains, crawl traps.
- Log file analysis — server log review showing how Googlebot actually crawls the site. This reveals crawl budget waste (low-value URLs eating Googlebot budget) and missed pages.
- Core Web Vitals audit — Lighthouse + PageSpeed Insights + CrUX field data. We identify which specific resources/components break performance.
- Schema audit — current schema markup validated against Schema.org and Google Rich Results Test. We flag missing types (FAQPage, BreadcrumbList, Organization), broken markup, and dangling references.
- Hreflang and international audit — for multi-region sites, full hreflang matrix validation. Most multi-country sites have at least one broken hreflang link.
- Mobile and rendering audit — mobile-first indexing readiness, JS rendering quality, lazy-loading bot-visibility check.
Common technical SEO issues we find
Schema with dangling references
WebPage schema referencing a BreadcrumbList that doesn’t exist in the graph (this exact issue caused a GSC error on this very site until we fixed it last week).
JavaScript content invisible to bots
modern SPAs that don’t ship server-side rendering ship empty HTML to crawlers. Content appears in browser, not in search results.
Crawl budget waste
faceted navigation creating millions of URL combinations, only ~5% of which are commercially valuable.
Broken hreflang
most common: hreflang pointing to a URL that doesn’t return the language it claims, or self-referential hreflang missing.
Core Web Vitals regression on mobile
desktop scores look fine, mobile is in the red zone. Mobile-first indexing means mobile scores are what matters.
Indexable thin content
auto-generated category pages, tag archives, paginated listings indexed when they should be canonicalised or noindexed.
Our implementation approach
After the audit, we either implement fixes ourselves (when client has approved code-level access) or write the implementation specifications for your development team. Both paths produce the same audit + roadmap; the difference is execution speed.
For sites on WordPress, we work directly with Yoast or RankMath plus custom schema where needed. For Jamstack/Next.js sites, we ship schema programmatically via the build pipeline. For custom backends, we write the schema injection layer alongside your engineering team.
Pricing for technical SEO
Audit-only
€2,500-4,500 one-off depending on site size. Includes full audit report + prioritised roadmap. You implement.
Audit + implementation
from €5,000 for typical mid-size sites. Includes audit, implementation of P0/P1 fixes, validation.
Ongoing technical SEO
from €1,500/month as a layer on top of content/link programmes. Continuous monitoring + monthly fixes.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a technical SEO audit take? 2-3 weeks for typical mid-size sites (5,000-50,000 pages). Larger sites or complex multi-region setups: 4-6 weeks.
Will the audit affect rankings? The audit itself does not change anything. Implementation of fixes can cause short-term ranking fluctuation (1-2 weeks) as Google recrawls. Long-term effect is positive.
Do you fix issues yourselves or hand off to our dev team? Either path works. We have engineers who can ship code directly, or we write detailed specs for your team. Most clients pick a hybrid: we ship critical fixes, your team handles ongoing changes.
What if our site is on a platform you don’t know? The technical SEO principles are platform-agnostic. We have shipped fixes on WordPress, Shopify, Magento, Webflow, Next.js, Astro, Laravel, Django, and custom stacks. The CMS rarely blocks technical SEO — implementation quality does.
How do we measure technical SEO results? Core Web Vitals scores (Lighthouse + CrUX), Search Console coverage report (indexed vs excluded URLs), Search Console enhancements reports (schema validation), crawl stats. We report all of these monthly.
