DNS Lookup
DNS lookup is a basic but essential diagnostic. This tool queries A (IPv4), AAAA (IPv6), MX (mail), TXT (verification, SPF, DKIM), NS (nameservers), and CNAME (aliases) records for any domain. Use it to verify domain configuration, debug deliverability, find verification TXT records, or check IPv6 readiness.
Bare minimum: A (or AAAA) record pointing to your server, NS records identifying your DNS provider's nameservers. For email: MX records pointing to your email server, SPF in TXT to whitelist senders, DKIM in TXT for cryptographic signing, DMARC in TXT for policy enforcement. For verification: TXT records with tokens from Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster, Facebook, etc.
A record is IPv4 (32-bit address like 1.2.3.4). AAAA record is IPv6 (128-bit address). Most servers support both. About 35% of internet users have IPv6 connectivity. Having both A and AAAA records is best practice — clients pick whichever they can connect to.
Most likely: your nameserver returned no TXT records, or the TXT records are subdomain-specific (e.g. _dmarc.example.com vs example.com). This tool queries the root domain only. For subdomain queries, append the subdomain to the input (e.g. _dmarc.example.com).
DNS changes propagate over TTL (Time To Live) — typically 1-24 hours. This tool caches results 1 hour. If you just changed DNS records and this tool shows old values, wait 1 hour and re-check. For instant propagation testing, use dig directly from command line with specific resolver (e.g. dig @8.8.8.8 example.com).
