Keyword Density Checker
Keyword density checkers help you understand which words dominate your content. Paste an article, landing page, or any text below to see word frequency, density percentages, and a reading-time estimate. Useful for content QA, anti-overoptimisation checks, and balancing your target keywords against natural language.
Keyword density is the percentage of times a word appears in the text relative to total word count. Google does not have a fixed density threshold for ranking, but density above 5% for a single keyword often indicates over-optimisation and may trigger Google's spam classifier. Aim for 1-3% for primary keywords, natural variation for everything else.
Density is one signal of many. Modern Google ranking depends primarily on topical authority, search intent match, content depth, structural signals, and link equity. A page with perfect 2% density but mismatched intent will not rank. Use density as a QA check, not a primary optimisation lever.
Generally yes — match the density range of top-ranking pages for your target query. If pages 1-3 average 1.8% density on the primary keyword, do not push to 4%. Tools like this checker plus competitor SERP analysis (using Ahrefs Content Explorer or manual review) give you the right ballpark.
This tool handles Cyrillic and Latin alphabets. It splits on whitespace and counts unique tokens — accurate for most European languages. For agglutinative languages (Finnish, Hungarian, Turkish) where one word changes form heavily, density numbers are less meaningful than topic-level analysis.
