Broken Links Checker
Broken outbound links hurt user experience and signal stale content to Google. This tool fetches any page, extracts all links, and checks each one's HTTP status. Reports 4xx errors (broken), 3xx redirects (review), and 2xx (ok). Rate-limited to 30 links per scan to protect against abuse.
Rate-limit protection. Each link requires an HTTP request from our server. Without limit, a single user could overload our infrastructure or trigger rate-limits at the target sites. For complete site-wide broken link audits, use Screaming Frog SEO Spider (free for up to 500 URLs) or Sitebulb.
Indirectly. Broken outbound links signal stale or unmaintained content, which can affect E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness) scoring. They also waste user trust. Google does not directly penalise pages with broken outbound links, but pages with many broken links tend to underperform.
Broken (4xx): page does not exist (404), forbidden (403), gone (410). Redirect (3xx): URL still works but Google has to follow one or more hops. Permanent redirects (301) pass link equity. Temporary redirects (302/307) are fine but should not be permanent for years. Redirect chains (3+ hops) waste crawl budget.
Most common: (1) connection timeout (target server slow/down), (2) DNS resolution failure (domain expired or moved), (3) SSL certificate error (HTTPS misconfigured on target). All count as broken from a user-experience perspective.
